Composers BureauIra-Paul SchwarzBiography His compositions include music for orchestra, concert band, chamber groups, jazz band, carillon and chorus. Schwarz has written several operas, incidental music for numerous stage productions, and a wide array of literature for wind ensembles. His music has been performed in Europe, Japan, South Africa, Canada, South America and throughout the United States. Also active as a writer he has produced four books, numerous articles and reviews on music and the arts, and has served as an editor.| Recent recordings of his works include Rosa's Rhapsody -- A Tribute to Rosa Parks played by the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Robert Stankovsky (released on MCC Recordings); Time Pieces for Piano performed by Jeffrey Jacobs (available on the New Ariel label and published by ChoralWeb); Chromatic Essay for Clarinet and Strings performed by Mikhail Ounanian and the Russian Symphonic State Cappella conducted by Constantin Kremetz; Sappho - Fragments and Variations for Soprano and Piano recorded by Denise Milner and Rose Shlyam Grace (North/South Recordings), and Harlequin Suite for Flute Choir by the U.S. National Flute Association Flute Choir conducted by Amy Rice Blumenthal (CD and music from Alry Publications Etc.,inc.). Other additional publications include Classical Kick (3 movements for violin, clarinet or saxophone, and marimba) by C. Alan Publications, Celtic Concerto for pennywhistle (or Irish Pipes) and orchestra by Goodmusic (UK), available in the United States from Luck's Music Library, and Three Pieces for Carillon by friends of the Albany City Carillon. Recordings in progress include Ron McNair: Challenger - for Concert Band, Narrator and Prepared Tape by the MIT Concert Band conducted by John Corley. Dr. Schwarz moved to England in 1998 where he is active as a composer and teacher. Compositions Works available from Barnhouse Publications, Rubank, Inc., Shall-U-Mo, Woodgreen Press and from the composer. Score samples from Time Pieces for piano, and Sappho: Fragments and Variations for soprano and piano, are included here. Ira-Paul Schwarz, Professor and Composer-in-Residence Emeritus at
State University of New York, Brockport, studied music at Morningside
College, University of South Dakota, University of Iowa, Eastman
School of Music and Harvard University. His composition teachers
were Nadia Boulanger, Philip Bezanson and Richard Hervig.
