Jeanne Singer

Jeannie Singer passed away in 2000.

Biography

Jeanne Singer, composer and pianist, has set over 150 poems to music as art songs, choral works and vocal-chamber settings combining voice with solo instruments. The poets are mainly American with a sampling of other languages. She has composed a number of chamber works for various combinations of instruments including flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, harp, violin, viola, cello, piano. She recently completed a large work for orchestra and solo voice in two parts, "TRIBUTE TO RAOUL WALLENBERG" based on 2 American poems: TO BE BRAVE IS ALL (Madeline Mason) and AVENUE OF THE RIGHTEOUS (Anne Marx).

Jeanne Singer holds a BA from Barnard College. She studied composition at Columbia University under Douglas Moore and others. She was a private piano pupil of Nadia Reisenberg for 15 years. A recipient of the Artist Diploma (gold medal) from the National Guild of Piano Teachers, she has concertized extensively. She was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Music from World University in 1984.

Jeanne Singer's music has been performed worldwide. She has received numerous grants, commissions and prizes including 20 consecutive annual ASCAP Awards since 1978.
