Annual American Composers Update
Brian Fennelly
Professor Emeritus at the New York Univ. School of Arts
and Science, Brian Fennelly lives in Kingston, NY. In
1999, he received a second Koussevitsky Foundation commission,
to write a string quartet for the Pro Arte Quartet of
Madison, WI. The Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center
awarded him a residency for Fall 1999.
Reflected Arc
won Second Prize in the 1999 Britten-on-the-Bay Oboe Composition
Competition.
Premieres
On Dec. 7, 1999, pianist Margaret Mills gave the first
complete performance of
Sonata Serena, at Weill
Recital Hall, New York, NY. Also in New York, the American
Brass Quintet will premiere
Velvet and Spice (Brass
Quintet No. 3) (1999) at Merkin Hall, Mar. 23, 2000.
Performances
A recital in Rejkavik, Iceland included
Tesserae IV,
for solo contrabass trombone, with David Bobroff, Nov.
24, 1998. The Canyonlands New Music Ensemble presented
Hypnotic Song, Mar. 9, 1999 at the University of
Utah, Salt Lake City. At the SCI Region I Conference,
Reflected Arc had a performance, Nov. 20, 1998
at Connecticut Coll., in New London.
