Elizabeth Austin
Elizabeth R. Austin** spends the summer in Mannheim, Germany
and the rest of the year in Storrs, CT. She won first
price in the Miriam Gideon Composition Contest (IAWM)
for
Hommage for Hildegard.
Premieres
On May 30, 1998 in Charlottesville, VA, Hal Archer, flute;
Geraldine Archer, oboe; and Marjorie Mitchell, piano premiered
Capricornus Caribicus, commissioned by the Virginia
Unit of the Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic. A program
in Mannheim introduced
Hommage for Hildegarde,
with Rosemarie Landmann, mezzo-soprano; Wolfram Tessmer,
baritone; Wolfgang Wendel, flute; Markus LYcke, clarinet;
Uwe Balser, piano; and Matthias Dahms, percussion.
Performances
Pianist Craig Johnson played
Puzzle Preludes in
Finland. At the University of Nebraska, Peggy Holloway
sang
Three Sandburg Songs, for soprano. "A Portrait
Concert of Chamber Works" included various works for solo,
vocal, and chamber ensembles. Heard at the La Donna in
Musica conference in Fiuggi, Italy was the Parisian Octet
in
Water Music I, for cello octet. Students at
the Hans Eisler Musikhochschule, in Berlin, performed
An Die Nachgeborenen (To Posterity) in Rheinsberg,
Germany.
