Jack Beeson
Jack Beeson has homes in New York,
NY and Lloyd Neck (Long Island), NY. Articles concerning
his study in 1944-45 with Bela Bartok, "teaching" composition,
and collaborating on one's opera production have recently
been published. In addition, for ASCAP as a service to
composers wishing to set copyrighted text, he has written
an article available on the Internet.
Premieres
Sorry, Wrong Number, a conversational chamber opera
in one act, premiered at the Kaye Playhouse Center for
Contemporary Opera, in New York, NY, with Richard Marshall,
conductor, and Charles Meryon, stage director, May 25-26,
1999.
Practice in the Art of Elecution (libretto
by the composer), an operina in one act, was heard first
at Merkin Hall, New York, NY, May 12, 1999 with soprano
Lynne Vardaman and pianist Marc Peloquin.
Performances
On Mar. 24, 1999, Live from Lincoln Center broadcast the
New York City Opera's production of
Lizzie Borden.
