Annual American Composers Update

John H. Corina

John H. Corina, University of Georgia Professor Emeritus of Music, resides in Athens, GA, where he is a free-lance oboist and a private oboe and composition teacher. B&D Publications has released Cadenzas by John Corina for the Mozart Oboe Concerto.

Premieres

On Apr. 16, 1999, the anthem Christ is Ascended, Alleluia premiered, directed by Kathy Fox Powell, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Arlington, TX. Martha Braswell led the first performance of the anthem My Heart is Steadfast, O God, Nov. 7, 1999 at the First United Methodist Church, in Athens.

Performances

In 1999, William and Jolene Davis performed Four Sonatinas for Bassoon and Organ at the University of Georgia, in Athens, Apr. 26, and at the International Double Reed Society Conference, held at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Aug. 11. The same conference included Partita II for Solo Oboe, with Corina, Aug. 12, 1999. Sonet for Contrabassoon and Piano was on a program at Kansas State Univ., in Manhattan, with Bruce Gbur, Apr. 6, 1999.
