Annual American Composers Update

Jared Spears

Living in Jonesboro, AR, SAI National Arts Associate Jared Spears has retired from teaching at Arkansas State Univ. as of May 1999, receiving the rank of Professor Emeritus. He now is giving full time to composing and guest conducting.

Premieres

The first performance of The Lost Battalion was given by the Jacksboro (TX) High School Symphonic Band, May 11, 1999, conducted by Tom Kuhn. Under the baton of Raymond R. Reynolds, the Thunder Bay Symphonic Band of Alpena, MI premiered both Joyous Alleluias, for band, and Dynamo, for percussion ensemble, during the 1999 Midwestern Conference of Schools of Music, held at the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor. All premieres were commissioned by the performing organizations.
