Annual American Composers Update
Joseph Willcox Jenkins
Joseph Willcox Jenkins lives in
Pittsburgh, PA, where he holds the position of Professor
of Composition and History at the Duquesne Univ. School
of Music, planning to retire at the end of the spring
2000 semester.
Premieres
Psalm 100, op. 191, was sung first by the Oakmont
(PA) Presbyterian Church Choir, May 30, 1999. Led by Brady
Allred, the Duquesne Univ. Chamber Singers premiered
Ave
Maria (Hommage a Josquin), op. 192, at the university
and then included it on their tour of London, Cambridge,
Paris, Chartres (Cathedral of Notre Dame), and Barcelona,
among other sites, May-June 1999.
Vitis Mysticum,
op. 193, commissioned for the rededication of St. Bonaventure
Church, in Allison Park, PA, had its first performance
with the church's Sanctuary Choir and members of the Pittsburgh
Symphony, May 14, 1999. On Apr. 19, 1999 at Pittsburgh's
Calvary Episcopal Church, organist Christa Pakich presented
Confluence, op. 190, commissioned for the 20th
anniversary of the Pittsburgh Organ Artists Series.
Performances
Ann Labornsky toured New England with
Confluence.
