Annual American Composers Update

Karel Husa

SAI National Arts Associate Karel Husa spends May through Oct. in Ithaca, NY and Nov. through Apr. in Ponce Inlet, FL. On Oct. 2, 1999, Ithaca Coll. dedicated the Karel Husa Gallery as part of its new James Whalen Center for Music. During the past three summers, the Hartwick Coll. Summer Festival has included 35 of Husa's works.

Performances

1999 performances of Music for Prague 1968 occurred with the Boise Philharmonic, J. Ogle conducting, Feb. 22-23; and with the San Jose Symphony, under L. Grin, Mar. 5-7. The Ithaca Coll. Trio played Celebracion and Sonata a Tre, Sept. 15 and Oct. 2, 1999. On July 18, 1999, the Hartwick Summer Festival Ensemble, led by B. Wilson, presented Apotheosis of this Earth. A Dvorak Hall program in Prague featured the Suk Quartet in String Quartet No. 1, Nov. 10, 1999. J. Smith led the Cleveland Orchestra in Concerto for Orchestra, Nov. 18-20, 1999.
