Michael Braz
SAI Friend of the Arts Michael Braz holds the position
of Professor of Music at Georgia Southern Univ., in Statesboro.
In 1999, he presented "Wagner and the Gifted Non-Music
Major: Interdisciplinary Approaches to
The Ring of
the Nibelung," at the Annual Conference of the College
Music Society Southern Chapter, in Orlando, FL (Feb.);
and "Beyond Theory: Writing for the Developing School
or Church Children's Choir," at the Georgia ACDA Convention
(July).

Me, for SA choir and piano, as one of its "preferred
secular publications." The Aug. 1999 issue of
Choral
Journal included a review of
The Lighthouse,
for SSA choir and piano or orchestra. During the Festival
of American Music, in Raleigh, NC, Feb. 1999, he conducted
a workshop for area music teachers and church musicians.
Premieres
At the same festival, Thomas Sibley and the Raleigh (NC)
Boychoir, with the composer conducting, introduced
Exultation,
for SSA choir and piano.
Kent Island High School Alma
Mater, for voice and piano or band, premiered at Kent
Island (MD) High School, June 1999. Based on writings
ranging from ancient Greece and Rome to Shakespeare and
Lord Byron,
A Suite of Love and Marriage (The "Little
Ring" Cycle), for soprano and piano, is scheduled
to have its first performance in Apr. 2000, with Sandra
McClain Buller and Jeffrey Buller. All works were commissioned
by the performers.
Performances

conducted

Bay of Fundy, July
1999.
Jubilate Deo, for SSA choir with piano or
brass quintet, has received numerous performances under
conductor Henry Leck in various national treble honors
choruses.
