Annual American Composers Update

Marilyn J. Ziffrin

Marilyn J. Ziffrin** lives and works in a small New Hampshire village. The New London, NH Baptist Church has commissioned a multi-movement work to celebrate freedom, with soloists, the adult choir, children's choir, various instrumentalists, and organ. On Oct. 23, 1999, she was guest composer at a celebration of New Hampshire history through music and drama, sponsored by the Southern New Hampshire Community School of the Arts. She has been appointed to the Music Teachers National Association's National Composer Commission Advisory Committee.

Pianist Donna Stoering premiered Recurrences at Adams Memorial Opera House, Oct. 23, 1999 in Derry, NH.

Performances

On the same program, Stoering and George Lopez performed the piano duet Yankee Hooray. Mezzo-soprano Amy Schneider, violist Michael Zaretsky, and harpsichordist Marina Minkin presented the song cycle Haiku, Jan. 15, 1999 at Boston (MA) Univ. Accompanied by pianist Anne Franciose Perrault, mezzo-soprano D'Anna Fortunato sang Three Songs of the Trobairitz at the Longy School of Music, in Cambridge, MA, Jan. 17, 1999.
