Annual American Composers Update

Ned Rorem

Ned Rorem divides his time between New York, NY and Nantucket, MA. In 1998, his evening-length song cycle Evidence of Things not Seen received praise from The New York Times, New York magazine, Opera News, and Newsday. Da Capo Press has reprinted his first two books, Paris Diary and New York Diary, in one volume. Boosey & Hawkes has released brochures of his vocal works and of his instrumental and orchestral music.

Premieres

For the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, Sept. 17-20, 1998, contestants gave the first performances of Autumn Music, for violin and piano.

Performances

In 1998, Celebrations of Rorem's 75th birthday occurred in New York, NY with concerts of his works at the Kaye Playhouse, with Joy in Singing, featuring War Scenes, Gloria, and Four Madrigals, Apr. 27; and at the Columbia Univ. Miller Theater, with singers and instrumentalists, Oct. 22.
