Annual American Composers Update
Robert Jager
Robert Jager is in his 29th year at Tennessee Tech Univ.,
in Cookeville, where he is both Professor of Music, teaching
composition and music theory, and Coordinator for Academic
Studies in Music. Recent residencies as guest composer
and conductor include the Astoria Coll. "Arts on Stage"
program, in Oregon, May 1999; and and upcoming one at
Ithaca (NY) Coll., Mar. 2000.
Premieres
Under John Dodson, the Bryan Symphony Orchestra premiered
Suite from "Edvard Munch", Sept. 26, 1999 in Cookeville.
Commissioned in celebration of the U.S. Navy Band's 75th
anniversary,
Mystic Chords of Memory, for symphonic
band, is to be introduced by the band, Lt. Commander Ralph
Gambone, conductor, Mar. 2000 in Washington, DC.
Performances
At the Astoria Coll. program, works performed were
Esprit
de Corps, Lest We Forget, and
First Suite for Band.
The Cumberland Woodwind Quintet played
Mumblety-Peg
at the International Flute Convention, Aug. 1999 in Atlanta.
I Dream of Peace, for children's choir and chamber
orchestra, was heard in Boston, Jan. 2000 in Jordan Hall,
with the Lincoln School chorus, directed by Johanna Hill
Simpson, for its 10th-anniversary celebration.
