Annual American Composers Update
Kent Kennan
"Since I'm now 87 and living in a retirement home, I hope
no one will expect any exciting news from me. I'm happy
and grateful to report that I still have all my faculties
(more or less), still drive and go out to concerts and
theater, and still miss my former students and colleagues
after 40 years of teaching and 18 of retirement. It is
a satisfaction that two books bearing my name (
The
Technique of Orchestration, coauthored by Donald Grantham,
and
Counterpoint) continue to be widely used, and
that my music is still being performed and recorded."
Kent Kennan's transcription for clarinet and orchestra
of Prokofiev's
Sonata, Op. 34, with Richard Stoltzman
and Warsaw Philharmonic, has been recorded but not yet
issued by BMG Records.
