Neil McKay
Neil McKay has completed his
Symphony No. 2, A Shakespeare
Tryptich, a work in three movements:
And Thereby
Hangs a Tale, Such Sweet Sorrow, and
Pribbles and
Prabbles.
Premieres
Such Sweet Sorrow was played first by the University
of Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, Henry Miyamura, conductor,
in Honolulu's Blaisdell Concert Hall, Apr. 30, 1999. On
Mar. 8, 2000,
Mosaic, for solo cello, was introduced
by Drew Eckard in Orvis Auditorium, in Honolulu. Heard
first Apr. 26, 1999 with the University of Hawaii Symphonic
Winds, Grant Okamura, conductor, at Blaisdell Concert
Hall,
Na Mele O Kahalaopuna was played again by
the Hawaii Youth Symphony, Miyamura, conductor, and 70
members of the Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus, Nola Nahulu,
director, at the Hilton Hawaiian Hotel, Nov. 26, 2000,
and at Blaisdell Concert Hall, Dec. 3, 2000. Timothy Carney
led the Hawaii Vocal Arts Ensemble in the premiere of
Ku'u Pua Rose, in Maui and Oahu, June 11 and 19,
1999.
Performances
Symphony No. 1, played by the Indiana University
Symphony Orchestra, Ray Cramer, conductor, in Bloomington,
Sept. 26, 1999, will be performed by the Fairbanks (AK)
Symphony Orchestra, under Miyamura, Feb. 18, 2001. In
2000,
Four Spiritual Songs, for soprano and piano,
had performances by Teresa Bomberger and Douglas Bomberger,
in Orvis Auditorium, Mar. 24; and by Maria Wilder and
Jason Aucoin, at Brigham Young University, Mar. 13. Other
works heard in Orvis Auditorium included
Connexions,
with Scott Anderson, clarinet, and Joshua Ranz, bass clarinet,
at The Society of Composers, Inc. meeting, spring 1999;
and
How Little While, with soprano Judith Kellock,
flutist Laurie Lake, and pianist Robert Pollock, Mar.
8, 2000.
Dance Overture was presented by the Honolulu
Symphonic Winds at the Pearl City Cultural Center, July
26, 2000; and by the University of Hawaii Symphony Orchestra
at Blaisdell Concert Hall, Apr. 19, 1999.
