Annual American Composers Update
Ruth Brush
Ruth Brush** is a resident of Bartlesville, OK, where
she is active as a member of the Musical Research Society,
the Music Teachers Association, the Oklahoma Federation
of Music Clubs, and the Hyechka Music Club of Tulsa, where
she is an Honorary Member. For the past nine years, a
program of her music has been presented during the International
Mozart Festival, which has been held in Bartlesville's
Community Center Auditorium. Her programs have featured
regional artists from Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and Bartlesville,
presenting pieces for piano, violin, flute, cello, vocal
solos, instrumental trios, and organ, among others. For
the past 15 or more years, Brush has presented a piano
program at the Washington Park Mall, usually during National
Music Week. Works from the classical repertoire, American
composers, and other literature are used. A program of
her compositions is being planned for the Constantine
Theatre in Pawhuska, OK. Also, a tape is being prepared
for the University of Maryland for broadcast on its radio
network.
Premieres
A concert at the R. L. D. S. Church included the premiere
of
The Meadowlarks, with coloratura soprano Leslie
Wilson, accompanied by Alan Eastman. Brush introduced
Rhapsody, for piano, during National Music Week
at the Washington Park Mall.
Performances
At the Musical Research Society, Wilson sang
The Meadowlarks;
and Domer Dougherty and Brush performed
Romance Sans
Paroles, for violin and piano. Ann Nixon played
Pastorale
for Organ in Raymore, MO.
Collect, for SSA
choir, was heard at the National Federation of Music Clubs
convention in Bella Vista, AR, and at the club's program
in Del Rio, TX.
