Annual American Composers Update
Richard Lane
Richard Lane was honored by the Ridgewood (NJ) Arts Council
at its annual awards dinner, Feb. 2000. The International
Viola D'Amore Congress program, held in Trossingen, Germany
in July 2000, featured a program of his compositions.
Premieres Butterfly and the Bee was sung
first by the Orpheus Male Chorus, Apr. 14 in Ridgewood,
NJ. On July 7, 2000, the International Viola D'Amore Congress
program featured the premiere of Lane's
Trio for
oboe, viola d'amore, and piano, with Rosenblum, Hauss,
and Schoop.

Also on that program were
Michaelstein Suite, Three
Songs, Suite for Three Viola D'Amores, Serenade (flute,
viola d'amore, and strings), and
Suite for Viola D'Amore
and Piano. Heard at the Mannes School of Music was
Lane's
Viola Quartet, Apr. 9, 2000 in New York,
NY. The M.I.T. Concert Band played
Introduction and
Allegro, Apr. 30, 2000 in Cambridge, MA. In Apr. 2000,
three songs were sung in Weill Hall, New York, NY by Anne
Marie Church, accompanied by Linda Sweetman Waters. In
May 2000, the Sutton Ensemble and Bucky Pizzarelli performed
a new work for jazz guitar and string quartet at the Harms
Theater in Englewood, NJ.
