Annual American Composers Update
Stephen Jaffe
Stephen Jaffe has been named the Mary and James H. Semans
Professor of Music at Duke University. Currently, he is
writing a work for the Twentieth Century Consort and Milagro
Vargas to celebrate the ensemble's 25th anniversary season.
The premiere is scheduled for Apr. 21, 2001 at the Hirschorn
Museum, in Washington, DC, Christopher Kendall conducting.
Premieres
On Mar. 11 and 13, 2000, Nicholas Kitchen soloed with
the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra in the premiere of
Concerto
for Violin and Orchestra (35'), conducted by Stuart
Malina.
Performances
Kendall conducted mezzo-soprano Milagro Vargas and the
Twentieth Century Consort in
Four Songs with Ensemble,
Feb. 26, 2000 at the Hirschorn Museum, in Washington,
DC. Among the 1999-2000 performances of
Double Sonata,
for two pianos, the Janus Duo played the work Mar. 10,
2000 at the Kammermuzielzaal Lemmeninstitut, in Leuven,
Belgium. Terry Rhodes, Ellen Williams, and Patricia Martin
toured Duisberg, Essen, and Issenbruck, Germany, May 18-21,
2000, with
Fort Juniper Songs, for soprano, mezzo-soprano,
and piano.
