Annual American Composers Update

Stephen L. Yarbrough

Stephen L. Yarbrough currently is composing On The Plains, a suite for orchestra commissioned by conductor Henry Charles Smith and the South Dakota Symphony, in Sioux Falls, to premiere on a subscription concert Mar. 3-4, 2001. Yarbrough recently has been named Composer in Residence by the University of South Dakota College of Fine Arts.

Premieres

Under Smith, Alleluias for Orchestra had its first performances, with the South Dakota Symphony, in Sioux Falls, Dec. 10-12 and 16, 1999; and with the Arizona All State Orchestra, in Tucson, Apr. 29, 2000. The Yankton (SD) Children's Choir, conducted by Lee Ann Schramm, premiered Christ as a Light, Unbroken Line, for two-part children's choir with piano.

Performances

The Calvary Cathedral Chancel Choir, led by Monty Barnard, sang Love Unbidden in Sioux Falls. On a Northwestern College program, Sue DeHaan soloed in Sonata for Flute and Piano, in Orange City, IA.
