Thom Ritter George
Thom Ritter George was commissioned
to compose a work for the opening of Idaho State University's
$25 million Performing Arts Center, scheduled to open
in 2002. The score is based on the classic story of
Orpheus and is scored for vocal soloists, chorus,
and large orchestra. On Apr. 16, 1999, Vivaldi's Flute
Concerto in D Major, Op. 10 No. 3 ("Il Gardelino"),
transcribed by George for flute and winds, was played
first by the Ricks College Band under Kendell Nielsen,
in Rexburg, ID.
Performances
First Suite in F was played
by the Salt Lake Symphonic Winds, Barry Kopetz, conductor,
Salt Lake City, UT, Mar. 21, 2000. Quintet No.
2, for woodwinds, was heard at the Sewanee (TN)
Summer Music Festival, held at the University of the
South, July 27, 2000.
