Annual American Composers Update
Elliott Schwartz
Elliot Schwartz had a guest residency
at the Appalachian State University Festival, May 1-4,
2001, in Boone, NC. His new website is www.schwartzmusic.com.
In the September 2001 issue of BBC Music Magazine,
the Metier Recordings CD including his Bellagio Variations
(see Recordings) was named "Pick of the Month."
Premieres
On July 20, 2001, the Bar Harbor (ME)
Music Festival included the premiere of Bird Bath,
for woodwind quintet and electronics, with the Quintet
of the Americas. Saxophonist Kenneth Radnofsky and the
New England Conservatory Orchestra, conducted by Richard
Hoenich, presented Mehitabel's Serenade, October
3, 2001, in Boston, MA. Heard first with the Harvard
University Wind Ensemble, in Cambridge, MA, were Celebration,
for clarinet choir and percussion, and Hall of Mirrors,
for saxophone quartet and piano, December 1, 2001.
Performances
Edwin London conducted the Cleveland (OH)
Chamber Symphony in Jack O'Lantern, October 30,
2000. Works to be performed at the composer's lecture-recital
at New York (NY) University are Souvenir and
Four Maine Haiku, February 11, 2002. On April 11,
2002, Triple Play, for oboe, cello, and piano,
is scheduled to be played by Trio Pianovo in Weimar,
Germany. An all-Schwartz concert will take place at
the London (UK) College of Music and Media, April 20,
2002.
