Faye-Ellen Silverman, a resident of New York, NY,
continues to receive yearly ASCAP Standard Awards.
In 2000, Zigzags was chosen as required repertoire
for tuba players for the final round of the International
Women's Brass Conference (IWBC) solo competition,
and Oboe-sthenics was used by Kathleen Needlemann
for the semi-final round of the Young Concert Artists
competition. Dialogue Continued was commissioned by
Susan Slaughter for the Monarch Brass Quintet. Composer-in-residence
for the third IWBC, in Cincinnati, OH, Silverman was
one of two featured composers for the 2000-01 season
of Music Under Construction, at Mannes.
Premieres
Music Under Construction featured the premiere of
Obsessions, for cello and piano, with Irene
Sharp and Maureen Polera, November 15, 1999 in New
York, NY. Works heard first in New York in 2001 included
From Sorrow, for trumpet, French horn, and
bass trombone, with the Aeropagitica Brass Trio, February
5; and Wilde's World, for tenor, viola, and
guitar, with Michael Brown, Jovanina Pagano, and Stanley
Dorn, March 3. In 2000 in Washington, DC, the Monarch
Brass Quintet presented Dialogue Continued,
for horn, trombone, and tuba, March 15, also performed
by the quintet at an open rehearsal for the Youth
Orchestra, March 14, and at a Youth Concert at the
NMWA, March 16.
Performances
Movements 2-4 of Dialogue Continued were played
by the Canterbury Brass at the Third IBWC, June 29,
2000. Directed by Theresa Salomon, the Construction
Company Chamber Quartet gave a performance of Unquiet
Dreams, for clarinet, violin, and piano, December
9, 2000, in New York, NY. Paula's Song was presented
by the Construction Company String Quartet, November
3, 2001, in New York, NY. First Position, for
trombone and marimba, was heard in Evanston, IL with
Toby Oft and Shane Mizicko, May 24, 2000.
