Gordon Binkerd

2001 is the 85th birthday year of Gordon Binkerd. In his book Harvard Composers: Walter Piston and His Students, from Elliott Carter to Frederic Rzewski, which chronicled the "Harvard School" of composers during the distinguished tenure of Walter Piston, Howard Pollack compares Binkerd's classical elegance and dark, romantic regionalism more to the novels of Willa Cather than to the music of any other composer of his generation.
