Annual American Composers Update
Jerry Casey

Premieres
Casey's premieres occurring in Columbus, OH, include
One, Yet Different, a short one-movement string
quartet commissioned by the Ohio Federated Music Clubs
in honor of the 100th anniversary of the founding of
the National Federated Music Clubs, October 18, 1998;
Conflict and Reconciliation, for string orchestra,
commissioned by the String Sinfonia of Women in Music,
October 18, 1998; and Starting at Dawn, for small
orchestra and women's choir, commissioned by the SAI
Theta Alpha Chapter at The Ohio State University, April
5, 2000. On December 16, 2001, in Worthington, OH, Who
Would Have Thought It? God Did!, a Christmas cantata
for SATB choir, two narrators, and piano, was introduced.
Performances
Works heard at Capital University, in Columbus, included
Seven (A Suite for Orchestra), with the Columbus
Women's Orchestra under the direction of Emelyne M.
Bingham, Music Director, May 2, 1998; Three Love
Songs (poetry by Elizabeth Barrett Browning), for
soprano and piano, on the Chamber Concert Series of
Women in Music, with Casey, soprano, and Eileen Huston,
piano, January 23, 2000; and Psalm of Praise and
Hope, on the Chamber Concert Series of Women in
Music, with Cynthia Mahaney, soprano, and Myra Hine,
piano, October 8, 2000. Fountain Fantasy, for
B-flat clarinet and piano, was heard at an SAI Dinner
at the Clintonville Women's Club, in Columbus, with
Joy Norris, clarinet, and Ginger Haack, piano, February
1999.
