Annual American Composers Update

Leonardo Balada

Leonardo Balada, University Professor of composition at Carnegie Mellon, served on the jury for the Spanish Orchestras Association Composition Competition. He also served in the faculty for the summer's Torroella de Montgri International Music Festival in Catalonia.

Premieres

On April 22-24, 2001, the chamber opera The Town of Greed was presented by the Carnegie Mellon Opera and the Pittsburgh Cameratta, conducted by Colman Pearce. Rafael Fruhbeck will lead Michael Sanderling and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra in the first performance of Concerto for Cello and Orchestra No. 2 - New Orleans, March 9-10, 2002. In Pittsburgh, the River City Brass, conducted by Denis Colwell, has scheduled the premiere of Irish Dreams, March 12, 2002.
