Annual American Composers Update
Marvin Lamb
In 2001, Marvin Lamb served as Guest Composer on a
Big 12 Faculty Fellowship to Kansas State University
(April), and at the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute,
at the Quartz Mountain Arts Center (June). He is a member
of the Oklahoma State Arts Council's Music and Dance
Advisory Panel.
Premieres
Works played first in June 2001 at the Oklahoma Summer
Arts Institute included Life Cycle, for tenor,
flute, trumpet and bassoon, with Stanley Warren and
the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute Faculty Ensemble;
and Sacred Ground, for orchestra, fanfare brass,
and percussion, with the Oklahoma Arts Institute Festival
Orchestra, Kate Tamarkin, conductor. In October 2001
at the University of Houston, Time Travels, for
cello and percussion, premiered with David Tomatz.
Performances
In April 2001, Prism, for trombone, piano, and
percussion, had a performance with Joe Hughes and a
faculty ensemble at Furman University, in Greenville,
SC. A program at Kansas State University, in Manhattan,
KS, April 2001 included Paul Hunt in Linguistics, for
trombone and tape. Under the baton of Marin Alsop, the
Cabrillo Music Festival Orchestra played The Eagle
Has Landed, for narrator, tape, and orchestra, August
2001. Solowalk, for flute, was presented at the
National Flute Association Convention in Dallas, TX,
August 2001.
