Annual American Composers Update
Ruth Brush**
On May 8, 2001, Ruth Brush presented a recital including
Mozart's Sonata No. 1, Chopin's Nocturne in B-Flat
and Ballade in G Minor, Liszt's Polonaise,
and her own Osage Hills Suite. She serves as
the Oklahoma Chairman of the National Federation of
Music Clubs for Woman Composers, Parade of American
Music, and Folk Music. SAI groups in Illinois, Texas,
Iowa, and Arkansas have used her compositions, including
vocal solos and violin solos.
Premieres
On May 17, 2001, in Tulsa, OK, The Redbud, for
coloratura vocal solo, received its first performance,
from Frankie James.
Performances
Leslie Wilson sang the coloratura solo Meadowlarks
at a Musical Research and church concert in Bartlesville,
OK. This Same Jesus, an anthem for SATB choir,
had a performance at the Deway (OK) Christian Church
in February In December, Opal Reber presented the sacred
solo A Legend in Oklahoma City, OK. A National
Music Week event in May included Osage Hills Suite,
with the composer at the piano.
