Annual American Composers Update

Richard Hillert

Richard Hillert received an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree from Concordia Seminary, in St. Louis, MO, May 18, 2001.


Premieres

Heard first at Grace Lutheran Church, in River Forest, IL, were Prelude on Lo How a Rose, for string orchestra, at an Advent-Christmas concert; and Concertato on O God of Light, for SATB choir, congregation, oboe, strings, and organ, on the church's Cantata Series. Works presented at the 50th Anniversary Reunion at Concordia University in River Forest included Verses for Psalm 19, for trumpet, choir, assembly, and organ; and Festival Te Deum No. 2, for brass quintet, choir, assembly, and organ. Cantilena for Horn and Organ premiered at Concordia University in Mequon, WI.


Performances

The reunion also included a performance of Chorale Prelude: Praise the Almighty, with Greg Fudala, trumpet, and William Ickstaedt, organ, July 22, 2001. On the January 28, 2001, Grace Lutheran Church Cantata Series program, organist Steven Wente played Partita on Atkinson, O God of Light.
