In 2002, Daniel Dorff's
It Takes Four to Tango, for clarinet, bass clarinet, and two
mimes, was played first at the University of Oklahoma annual clarinet
symposium, with clarinetists Teresa Reilly Yeh and John Bruce Yeh, July 9;
and in a version for flute and string quartet, with Mimi Stillman
and members of the Philadelphia Orchestra in Ocean Grove, NJ, July
18. Helene Williams, soprano, and Leonard Lehrman, piano, presented Ki
Tovim, from Four Hebrew Love Songs,
July 14, 2002, in New
York, NY. On November
4, 2002, Say Hey! Homage to William Mays, for percussion
trio with baseball bats and audience participation, premiered with
members of the Haddonfield (NJ) Symphony.
Violist Mara Gearman introduced Deep
Funk, Part 2: Dance Sonata for Solo Viola, in Philadelphia,
January 26, 2003. On March
29, 2003, Take the Orchestra Out to the Ballgame, a
commission for the Philadelphia Orchestra's Sound All Around chamber
series, will be heard first, with narrator Charlotte Blake Alston
and members of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Performances
Sonatine de Giverny,
for piccolo and piano, was a required competition piece at the National
Flute Association annual convention, August
20, 2002. John Bruce
Yeh soloed with the Lamont Symphony, conducted by Lawrence
Golan, in Summer Solstice for Clarinet and String Orchestra,
October 13, 2002. In 2002, Blast Off! was heard with the
Orlando Philharmonic, October 13, and with the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra,
November 9. The Tortoise
and the Hare will have eight performances with the Baltimore Symphony,
Lara Webber conducting, Rheda Becker narrating,
April 2003.
