The 2003 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 95, Number 2 Howard J. BussHoward J. Buss's more than 90 published works, including instrumental and vocal solos, symphonic, choral, and band compositions, and chamber music, have been performed by university faculty artists as well as by players from organizations such as the New York Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic, Toronto Symphony, Chicago Symphony, and the US Air Force Band. His commissioned works include numerous original compositions as well as arrangements. In 2002, he received an ASCAP Award for significant performances of his music in noncommercial media. American Phoenix premiered May 24, 2002, with Stefan Sanders, of the Buffalo Philharmonic, bass trombone, and the University of North Texas Percussion Ensemble, at the 2002 International Trombone Festival in Denton. Tennessee Suite, for flute, viola, and piano, was introduced by Shelley Binder, Jorge Richter, and Fay Adams, March 3, 2002, at the Knoxville Museum of Art. Heard first at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center was Fables from Aesop, January 12, 2002, with Stewart Kitts, violin, and Gene Berger, French horn.
