The 2003 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 95, Number 2 Karel HusaIthaca College programmed three concerts of Karel Husa's orchestral, wind ensemble, and chamber music in Ithaca, and one in Alice Tully Hall (see Performances). In addition, many universities and colleges in the United States, such as Cornell University, SUNY Binghamton, the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Syracuse University, University of California at Riverside, and the Eastman School of Music, gave concerts of his music. In 2002, Karel Husa comes home, a Czech Television documentary (2001), was televised in the Czech Republic (June) and by the Binghamon, NY, PBS station (July). PremieresSonatina for Flute and Piano premiered July 4, 2002, at the Ithaca College Flute Institute, with Leone Buyse and Diane Birr. PerformancesIn Paris on November 25, 2001, Music for Prague 1968 was on the program of the Orchestre National de France Compositeurs politiques Festival, with Carl St. Clair, conductor. The Colorado Quartet toured with String Quartet No. 4 in 2001, in Chicago, November 1; Bard College, November 2; Denver, November 14; and Seattle, November 25; and then at Indiana University, July 5, 2002. The Ithaca College in Tully Hall concert celebrated Husa's 80th birthday on March 4, 2002, with the Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Grant Cooper, and the Wind Ensemble, under Stephen Peterson, performing Music for Prague 1968, Portrait for Strings, Concerto for Wind Ensemble, and Concertino for Piano, with Charis Dimaras, soloist. On May 28, 2002, Evocations of Slovakia was heard at the Spring festival, with J. Hlavac, in Prague. The 2002 Brevard Summer Festival featured Saxophone Concerto, Divertimento for Brass and Percussion, Smetana Fanfare, Deux Preludes and Celebración for orchestra, under the batons of David Effron, Sarah McKoin, and K.
