Michael Kurek
Michael Kurek was recognized
as a former winner at the BMI Student Composer Awards 50th Anniversary
Ceremony, June 7, 2002, in New
York, NY. The May/June 2002 issue of Savannah
(GA) Magazine had a feature article about the city's influence
on his music.
Premieres
On April 19, 2002, John Kochanowski and Mark Wait introduced Kurek's
Sonata for Viola and Piano, at Vanderbilt
University. Concertino for Celesta and Orchestra: "Fairy Dreams" premiered October 25-26, 2002, with Charlene
Harb and the Nashville Symphony, under Kenneth Schermerhorn.
Performances
In 2002, the Clarion String Quartet played his
String Quartet No. 2 at the University
of Southern California,
April 25; at the Colburn
School for the Performing
Arts, in Los Angeles,
August 6; and in Missillac, France,
August 17. The Tomsk (Siberia,
Russia) Philharmonic
performed Symphony No. 1:
"Sirens", March 3, 2002.
