Robert Jager

Robert Jager is being featured in 2002-03 in four quarterly issues of the Journal of the International Tuba and Euphonium Association.  The articles, written by Kenyon Wilson, deal with compositional analysis as well as performance considerations in Diverse Moments No. 1, for unaccompanied tuba (Spring 2002), Concerto for Tuba (Summer 2002), Reflections for Tuba and Piano (Fall 2002), and Three Ludes for Tuba Soloist and Tuba Quartet (Winter 2003).

Premieres

On April 7, 2002, in East Lansing, To Music had its first performance, with the composer conducting the Michigan State University Band.  Jager also conducted the premiere of Concert in the Park, with the Quakertown (PA) Community Band, April 21, 2002. The Michigan State University Children's Choir, led by Mary Alice Stollak, introduced Sing and Dance for Joy at the World Choral Conference in Minneapolis, MN, August 2002. As part of the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the flight of the Wright Brothers, February 2, 2003, in Dayton, OH, the combined choirs and bands of Wright State University and the University of Dayton, under Jager, will present A Dunbar Trilogy (texts by Paul Laurence Dunbar).

Performances

Jager conducted Third Suite and Last Full Measure of Devotion, April 28, 2002, at Bloomsburg (PA) University.  In 2002, Concerto for Euphonium was on programs of the International Tuba and Euphonium Association Festival at the University of North Carolina, in Chapel Hill, May 30; and the Falcone Festival at Blue Lake (MI) Music Camp, with the Staff Band under Donald Flickinger of Ferris State University, August 9. Esprit de Corps, Third Suite, and Stars and Bars March were heard at Western Kentucky University, in Bowling Green, with the composer conducting, June 20, 2002. On November 3, 2002, Jager led the Elmhurst (IL) University Band in Esprit de Corps and Joan of Arc.
