The 2003 American Composers Update

Sydney Hodkinson

Sydney Hodkinson will be teaching composition at Duke University for spring semester 2003, as well as continuing conducting and teaching composition at the summer Aspen (CO) Music Festival.

Premiere

String Quartet No. 4 (1996) was heard first on a Birmingham Art Music Alliance program, with the Amion String Quartet, at the LeBaron Recital Hall, in Montevallo, AL, February 25, 2002.  On June 22, 2002, at Weill Hall, in New York, NY, Greg Giannascoli presented Hammer (1996), for marimba.  The Aspen Music Festival included the premiere of Requiescant (2001), for chamber sextet, with the ACE Contemporary Music Ensemble, July 13, 2002.

Performances

In April 2002, String Quartet No. 3 (1994) had a performance by the Lafayette Quartet at the University of Victoria (BC, Canada).

Habanera Melancolica (1984) and A Friendly Gift (2001), both for piano; Concert Welcome (1994), voice and keyboard; Tela Lacerata (2001), woodwind quintet; Stanzas (1959, revised 1984), piano trio; Requiescant, Chambers of the Twilight (2001), solo cello; Punch (2001), soprano saxophone (or clarinet or tenor saxophone); all by Merion Music (Presser).
