Stephen Yarbrough
Stephen Yarbrough is Composer-in-Residence at the
University of South
Dakota, in Vermillion.
Premieres
In February 2002, the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra
presented Inaugural Fanfare, conducted by Susan Haig. February 2002 also saw the premiere of a commissioned
piece for violin and harpsichord, A Joyful Noise, with John
Thomson and Larry Schou, at a University
of South Dakota faculty
recital. On May
7, 2002, the Vermillion High School Choir, under the
direction of Kristin Iversen, introduced
the commissioned work The Road Not Taken, for SATB choir
and piano.
Performances
Alleluias for Orchestra, part of Christmas
concerts by the National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Henry
Charles Smith at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
in Washington, DC, and by conductor Richard Giangiulio and the Greater Dallas Youth Symphony in December
2001, had 2002 performances conducted by Smith with the St. Olaf Coll. Orchestra, March 25; and with the Minnesota Orchestra
at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, September 5 and 8. In 2002, William LaRue
Jones led a performance of With the Voice of Joy and Praise
with the Tennessee All State Orchestra, March 16, and with the Arizona
All State Orchestra (April). In
April 2002, the University
of South Dakota Brass Choir,
under Rolf Olson, toured with Prairie Spring.
