SAI National Arts Associate W. Francis McBeth's
The Sacred Flame, commissioned by the Tennessee All-State
Band, was heard first in Nashville,
TN, March 2002. In April 2002, the Woodward Academy Band, of
Atlanta, GA,
introduced its commissioned work Scaramouche. McBeth conducted both premieres.
Performances
The contemporary music festival at Capital
University featured Scherzo,
Four Frescoes, Kaddish,
Of Sailors and Whales, and Countless Halls of Air. The Arkansas Tech University Band presented
The Lions of North Bridge at the ABA Convention in Wichita,
KS.
Heard with the Sterling (IL) Municipal Symphony Band were
Lauds and Tropes and Beowulf.
Of Sailors and Whales had performances by the Little
Rock (AR) Wind Symphony, at the National Federation of Music Clubs
national convention, and by the Fairfax (VA) Municipal Band.
