The 2004 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 96, Number 2 Carl B. Staplin ***"In the spring of 2003, I was named an SAI National Arts Associate and initiated as a new member of SAI by the Des Moines Alumnae Chapter of SAI. At Drake University I have begun a new program in addition to our Bachelor of Church Music degree. It is now possible for people to receive a Certificate in Church Music in two years, on a part-time basis. The total number of required hours is 21, which includes applied music lessons, all the church music courses, and a course in Religion. It is fully accredited by NASM (National Association of Schools of Music). Classes are held on weekends to allow full-time employees to participate. NASM has hailed this certificate as an innovative addition to their catalogue. I have also been engaged in a series of five organ recitals devoted to J.S. Bach's organ masterpieces. The fifth and last recital will be on April 25, 2004. I have been assisted by members of the Drake University Choir under the direction of Dr. Aimee Beckmann-Collier."
