Elliott Schwartz

During 2002-2003, Elliott Schwartz appeared as visiting lecturer at New York University and SUNY Stony Brook. His music was featured on the "Sounds New" Series (Berkeley, CA), at the ACA American Music Festival in New York, at the Bar Harbor Music Festival (where his Beginner's Luck for solo guitar was premiered), and at The College Music Society National Conference in Kansas City, MO. The Portland (ME) Symphony Orchestra gave the first performance of Voyager, and PSO conductor Toshiyuki Shimada recently recorded Voyager with the Moravian Philharmonic (the Czech Republic) for release on an Albany CD. In the 2003-2004 season, Schwartz will appear as guest composer-performer in New York, Baltimore, Rutgers University, and London (Goldsmiths College and the Royal Academy of Music). He will hold a week-long residency at Oxford University (UK), and introduce his new chamber trio By George at the international "Händel MusikTage" (Germany).

Premieres

Crystal, for piano and percussion, was first heard October 16, 2003, at the University of Maryland/Baltimore County, Baltimore, MD. On October 25, Inside and Out, for Eb clarinet and prepared piano, was introduced at the Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA. Polar Variations for concert band, was performed November 16, by the Bowdoin College Concert Band, Brunswick, ME.

Performances

Memorial in Two Parts, for violin and piano, was presented by Composers in Red Sneakers, October 31, 2003, Longy School, Boston, MA. The clarinet and piano work Reading Session was heard November 9 at the Flea Theatre, in New York, NY. An All-Schwartz concert was given January 20, 2004, at Goldsmiths College, University of London (UK). Elan: Variations for Five Players and A Garden for RKB were both performed January 26, by the Oxford ISIS Ensemble, Oxford University (UK).

Recordings

Five orchestral works by Elliott Schwartz will be released in early 2004 on an Albany Recordings CD.
