The 2004 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 96, Number 2 Joseph Willcox JenkinsJoseph Willcox Jenkins' new work, Five Love Poems of Thomas Hardy, for full chorus, a cappella, was written "for a very special birthday of his beloved Margaret, his darling wife of 46 years." PremieresLake Quinault, op. 203, an intermezzo for fluegelhorn and string quartet, which was "written for the wedding of the daughter of his dearest friends and a member of the Dakota tribe," received its premiere at a wedding on the shores of the Lake Quinault, Olympic Peninsula, WA, August 9, 2003. A Hymn of Praise, op. 204, for full chorus and organ, was commissioned for the 100th anniversary of the Anglican Church of the Redeemer. The work was first heard on November 2, the Feast of All Saints, at Church of the Redeemer, Pittsburgh, PA. Farewell and Be Blessed, op. 205, (Sl'ans Beannacht), a funeral motet for 4 choirs of trombones, "written in memory of a cherished colleague, Matthew Sheiner," was introduced on January 23, 2004.
