Linda Robbins Coleman ****

SAI Honorary Member Linda Robbins Coleman completed her second term as Composer-in-Residence with the Cedar Rapids (IA) Symphony Orchestra in 2002. She continues to serve on the artistic committee of that organization. As owner of Coleman Creative Services since 1976, she divides her time between composing, writing, consulting, and caregiving. In December 2002, Coleman's adaptation of her string orchestra work, Hibernia Suite, into a string quartet edition was completed. She is currently working on three commissions for orchestras in Georgia, Ohio, and Iowa, in addition to writing a book about the history of the Wartburg Community Symphony Orchestra for their 50th anniversary. Her music is licensed with Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI).

Performances

The Late Night Café for piano quartet, and The Celebration! (A Symphonic Jubilee) were performed during the Cedar Rapids (IA) Symphony's 80th Anniversary Season. The Celebration! was also featured on the Conductors Guild New Music Project at the Annual Conference in New York in January 2003; along with other performances by the DeKalb Symphony in Atlanta, GA, the Prairie Ensemble in Champaign-Urbana, IL, and by the East Central Illinois Youth Symphony. The Overture to In Good King Charles' Golden Days was performed before 14,000 people for the Freedom Festival in Cedar Rapids in July 2002; and in February 2003 by the Wartburg Community Symphony. Hibernia Suite for string orchestra was performed by the Ho'ulu Pila Chamber Orchestra in Hilo, HI, in February 2003, while Journeys, A Symphonic Poem was performed by the Kona (HI) Symphony Orchestra, and the Plymouth (MA) Philharmonic.

Publications

Aged to Perfection: Wartburg Community Symphony Orchestra Celebrates Half a Century, was completed for publication in 2003 by Coleman Creative Services.

Recordings

Journeys II, orchestra works; Rags to Riches, solo piano and chamber works; and If Only We Could Laugh Once More, piano and vocal pop songs; TechnoBabe Recordings, available through Coleman Creative Services.
