The 2004 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 96, Number 2 Robert JagerThe United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps of Washington, D.C., is utilizing Robert Jager's Esprit de Corps in a new public service announcement for the promotion of their music performance events throughout the country. PremieresIn Sunshine and Shadow, for soprano, baritone, chorus, and wind ensemble, was introduced in performances during April 2003 at Wright State University and the University of Dayton (OH), with soprano Kimberly Warrick, baritone Thomas Payne, and the composer conducting. Based upon the works of Dayton-born, African-American poet, Laurence Dunbar (1872-1906), In Sunshine and Shadow has three movements: An Antebellum Sermon, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, and When the Colored Band Comes Marching Down the Street. PerformancesI Dream of Peace was presented in Carnegie Hall, New York, NY, on April 27, 2003, by a combined children's chorus of 172, and the New England Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Mary Alice Stollak. In June, the same work was performed by a combined children's chorus of 300, and the Oregon Mozart Players under the direction of Sandra Snow; and also at the Gala Concert of the Pacific International Children's Choir Festival, a part of the Oregon Bach Festival, on June 30.
