Ray Songayllo

During the summer of 2003, Ray Songayllo performed as pianist in three programs at the International Workshops held in Biarritz, France. He accompanied English soprano Judith Sheridan in a recital titled "Forbidden Voices," featuring songs written by Jewish composers who were banned by the Nazis in Germany. In addition, he presented a lecture/recital to piano teachers attending the workshops on The Sufferings of the Queen of France, op.23, by Dussek, and performed the Rachmaninov Trio Elegiac on a final chamber music program. Songayllo is the pianist for the Midgard Ensemble, an international group, which made its American debut on April 12, 2003, in St. Paul, MN.

Performances

Song Cycle on Sandskrit Poems was presented on a chamber music program May 11, 2003, by Shala Cutler, soprano; Ann Stein, flute; with the composer at the piano; Capitol Hill Lutheran Church, Des Moines, IA. Hommage á Fauré for piano was performed by the composer on a November 16 piano recital, St. John's Lutheran Church, Des Moines, IA.
