Donald Harris

Donald Harris was a guest lecturer on October 3, 2003, at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. On November 24, he sat on the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) Panel in Seattle, WA for “New Dimensions: Music Executive as Cultural Leader in Composition.” He spent March, April, and May of 2004 in residency at the Camargo Foundation, in Cassis, France, and is currently the Chair of the Music Director Search Committee for the Columbus (OH) Symphony Orchestra.

Premieres

Second String Quartet, commissioned by the Jefferson Academy of Music, Columbus, OH with funding from the Greater Columbus Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, was presented May 18, 2003, by the St. Petersburg Quartet, Columbus (OH) Museum of Art; the performance was repeated on June 8, 2004, for the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC. A Lyric Fanfare, commissioned by the Lima (OH) Symphony Orchestra in honor of its 50th anniversary season, was premiered by the orchestra under the direction of Crafton Beck, February 21, 2004. Boston Musica Viva presented their commissioned work Five Tempi (LUDUS III) in a November 12 performance led by Richard Pittman, Boston, MA.

Performances

Pianist Mariko Kaneda performed Piano Sonata, January 19, 2003, Sundays at Central, Columbus, OH. Fantasy for Violin and Piano, was presented by violinist Daniel Broniatowski, May 2, 2003, New England Conservatory, Boston, MA.
