Movement IV, The Peace May Be Exchanged, from Dan Locklair’s organ suite, Rubrics, was performed by organist Scott Hanoian at the Washington (DC) Cathedral funeral of former President Ronald Wilson Reagan, June 11, 2004. In Mystery and Wonder: The Casavant Diptych, commissioned by Casavant Frères for this distinguished pipe organ builder’s 125th year Anniversary, was performed by hundreds of organists around the world in recital and in services of worship on the 125th anniversary weekend, November 13-14. A new work, Concerto for Harp and Orchestra for harpist Jacquelyn Bartlett, has been commissioned by a consortium of American orchestras. The work was commissioned in honor of the 2004 restoration of the 1800 Tannenberg pipe organ – the largest extant pipe organ from this early American builder. The Canadian premiere of In Mystery and Wonder: The Casavant Diptych was given by organist Jacquelin Rochette in a 125th Casavant Anniversary Concert sponsored by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation on September 26, at Saint-Nom-de-Jésus Church, Montréal, Canada; the American premiere of the same work was given by French organist Pierre Pincemaille on October 24, in a 125th Casavant Anniversary Concert on Casavant’s largest organ (Rildia Bee O’Bryan Cliburn Organ), at Broadway Baptist Church, Fort Worth, TX. Ave Maria, Motet for SATB choir divisi, a cappella, received its world premiere on December 24, by the Choir of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, directed by organist/choirmaster Robert Brewer, Houston, TX. PerformancesBrief Mass, Pater Noster (a motet) and Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis (Montréal) were heard in a May 9, 2004, performance by the Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys, under the direction of Gerre Hancock, St. Thomas Church Fifth Avenue, New York, NY. Timothy Koch led the South Carolina Symphonic Chorale in a performance of A DuBose Heyward Triptych on May 16 at the Washington Street United Methodist Church, Columbia, SC. In the Autumn Days (Symphony for Chamber Orchestra), was presented by the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra, directed by Warren Friesen, on June 24, University of Minnesota, Duluth. The works Dream Steps, dance suite for flute, viola, and harp; Music of Quince, tone poem for flute, clarinet, violin, and piano; and Reynolda Reflections, trio for flute, cello, and piano; were performed November 10 on a concert titled “Chamber Music of Dan Locklair,” by the Mallarmé Chamber Players (Anna Ludwig Wilson, Artistic Director), at the Reynolda House Museum of American Art, Winston-Salem, NC. David Hagy led the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra in a January 15, 2005, performance of Symphony of Seasons (Symphony No. 1), Keppel Auditorium, Salisbury, NC.
