The 2005 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 97, Number 2 Edmund CionekPremieresEdmund Cionek was a resident artist at the Mabou Mines Theatre in New York, NY, from September 2003 to May 2004, where he developed and premiered a new multimedia theatre work, Attack of the 50ft Walt Whitman, based on Whitman’s 1855 poem “The Sleepers.” This work, which was also produced at the Flea Theatre in New York, is written for four singer-actors, chorus, live video feed, and image projections. The woodwind quintet, Fifteen Fake Folk Songs, commissioned by the Quintet of the Americas, was premiered in May by the ensemble in New York, NY. PerformancesAt The Art Gallery, for a cappella women’s voices (SSAA) and slides, was performed in December 2003 at a gala benefit for the Bar Harbor Music Festival at the Liedkrantz Society in New York, NY.
