The 2005 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 97, Number 2 John Anthony LennonDuring 2004, works by John Anthony Lennon were broadcast in Austria, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Portugal. The composer was resident composer at Florida State University in April, guest composer at both the University of Kentucky and Bowling Green (OH) State University in October, as well as resident composer at Northern Iowa University in November; in 2005 he will travel to Spain as a composer for the Fundacion Valparaiso. Lennon also received commissions and requests for music from the Yukimi Kambe Viol Consort, Tokyo, Japan; New York New Music Ensemble; Benjamin Verdery, Yale University; Emory University; and David Stambler, Penn State University. In addition to serving as a judge for the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) competition, he received grants from the Southern Arts Federation and the Margo Music Fund. Two works by Lennon were the subject of academic papers: Death Angel was the subject of a DMA dissertation delivered at Stony Brook, and Distances Within Me was the subject of a Master’s thesis delivered at Penn State University.
