The 2005 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 97, Number 2 John CorinaThe Journal “Musica Hodie,” Vol. III, no.1 /2, 2003, included a CD recording of John Corina’s In Paradisum, for woodwind quintet and handbells, featuring the University of Georgia Woodwind Quintet. The journal is published by the Escola musica e artes cenicas Universidade Federal de Goías, Programa de Pos-Graduacao em Musica, Brasil. PremieresDivertimento for oboe and bassoon received its world premiere June 30, 2004, from Dwight Manning and William Davis, at the International Double Reed Society, in Melbourne, Australia; the work was given its American premiere on September 14 in a faculty recital at the University of Georgia, Athens. PerformancesIn Paradisum for woodwind quartet with handbells was presented several times by the University of Georgia Woodwind Quintet: January 4, 2004, at Washington and Lee University, Lexington, VA; February 9 at Olivet Nazarene University, Bourbonnais, IL; February 10 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; and February 12 at Oberlin (OH) College. Divertimento for contrabassoon and piano was performed March 27 by the composer, accompanied by pianist Jolene Davis, for the Southeastern Composers League Forum, Millsaps College, Jackson, MS; the piece was also performed April 11 by contrabassoonist Monica Fucci and pianist Teresa Marques da Silva, at La Scala de San Telmo, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
