The 2005 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 97, Number 2 Jackson HillJackson Hill spent 2003-04 on sabbatical leave from Bucknell University, dividing his time between Lewisburg, PA, and London, England, working on Symphony No.4 and Remembered love, unforgotten dreams, a commission from The King’s Singers. His composition Voices of Autumn was included in the Chanticleer CD “Our American Journey,” which received a Grammy nomination in November 2003. PremieresTango-no-Tango received its European premiere on August 30, 2004, from pianist Haydée Schvartz at the Edinburgh Festival, Scotland. Commissioned by the Westminster Williamson Voices, directed by James Jordan, When spring is born at last for SATB a cappella choir was presented by the ensemble on November 14, in the Philadephia (PA) Cathedral. Remembered love, unforgotten dreams for a cappella voices, was commissioned for and will be premiered by The King’s Singers on February 12, 2005 at the Kennedy Center, Washington, DC. PerformancesHill’s setting of the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis, The Saint Chad Service, was performed by the cathedral choir at Lichfield (UK) Cathedral, March 4. Three Motets were performed by the choir of Corpus Christi Church, under the direction of Louise Basbas, April 7, New York, NY. Tango-no-Tango received numerous performances throughout 2004-05, including performances by Schvartz in Argentina, and Louise Bessette in Canada. Voices of Autumn, for mixed voices, was given numerous performances by Chanticleer in 2004, including April 20 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; June 25, the “Printemps des Arts” Festival in Nantes, Belgium; and Japan.
