The 2005 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 97, Number 2 Roque J. CorderoIn December 2003, Roque J. Cordero was appointed Honorary Member of the Colegio de Compositores Latinoamericanos de Música de Arte in Mexico City. September 30, 2004, the Symphony Orchestra of Panama honored Cordero with a Concert-Homage of his music, featuring more than half a century of creative work: Capricho Interiorano (1939), Danza en Forma de Fuga (1958), Fourth Symphony (Panamanian) (1982), and Centennial Symphonic Tribute (1997). The program was conducted by Jorge Ledezma Bradley. PremieresSecond Piano Concerto was first heard March 4 and 7, 2004, in performances by pianist Leon Bates with the Chicago (IL) Sinfonietta, under the direction of Paul Freeman. PerformancesSeveral pieces were presented during the 2004 Ibero American Festival of the Arts in Puerto Rico: Sonatina Rítmica on June 13 by pianist Luis Rodríguez; two messages from Five Messages for Four Friends on June 17 by guitarist Ana María Rosado; and Eight Miniatures for Small Orchestra on June 26 by the Symphony Orchestra of Puerto Rico, conducted by Germán Gutierrez.
