The 2005 American Composers Updateas published in PAN PIPES, Volume 97, Number 2 Samuel Adler***Samuel Adler’s works were performed April 2-5, 2004, at the 26th Annual Seminar on Music for the Young, Weston, MA. PremieresPianist Roger Creel joined the Rivers Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of the composer, for the April 4, 2004, premiere of Piano Concerto No. 3, in Boston, MA. Recalling the Yesterdays was premiered April 7 by Voices of Change, with soprano Jenny Searles, in Dallas, TX. The Young People’s Chorus of New York, conducted by Francisco Nunez, presented Songs of the Season on April 25. Jonah, a cantata for soli, chorus, and orchestra, was presented December 19 by the Bach Choir and Orchestra of Mannheim, Germany, conducted by Johannes Michel. On February 28, 2005, the National Theater Orchestra of Mannheim, under the direction of Peter Sominev, is scheduled to premiere One Lives But Once, a dance suite for orchestra. In March, organist Stephen Tharp will premiere Sonata in Paris, France. PerformancesPensive Soliloquy and Canto VI for saxophone were performed May 20, 2004, by saxophonist Christopher Greco and pianist Bryan Pezzone in Los Angeles, CA. August 1, pianist John Root and the Navarra String Quartet presented Adler’s Piano Quintet. String Quartet No. 8 was heard in a November 16 performance by the University of Denver (CO) String Quartet. To Celebrate a Miracle for wind ensemble received December performances by the Dallas (TX) Winds, the Cincinnati (OH) University Wind Ensemble, and the Marine Band.
